PALI AND SANSKRIT WORDS IN THAI POEM “NA RUEDOO NOW” BY SAKORN CHITANGKORN

Abstract

The objective of the academic article was to study the Pali and Sanskrit words, appearing in the Thai poem “Na Ruedoo Now” composed by Sakorn Chitangkorn. It was a collection of poems on the poet’s seasonal life. The literary aesthetics was truly utilized to transfer the audience his imagination, ideas and feelings, reflecting reality, beauty, sorrow and calm through the outstanding artistic phrases. The poem’s plot was said of Thailand’s seasons; cold, hot and rainy. Apart from the study, the poem “Na Ruedoo Now” was written and used the following five groups of Pali and Sanskrit words. The first was endowed with Buddhist words such as Sansaravat (Transmigration), Kiles (Defilement), Tanha (Craving), Baap (Evil), Kam (Deed or action), and Bun (Virtue or merit). The second was on the period of time and the seasons such as Ratri (Night), Sondhaya (Twilight), Adit (The past or the previous times), Patchuban (The present or the present moment), and Anakhot (The future). The third was about the nature and the environment such as Thorani (The earth, the ground or the land), Thara (The steam or the current), Himalai (Himalaya Mountains), and Mahasamut (The ocean). The fourth was said of general words such as Lop (Greed), Krot (Anger), Phinit (Consideration), Aphat (Sickness), Chara (Agedness), and Morana (Death). The fifth was related to general abstract nouns such as Maitri (Friendship or goodwill), Sannivat (Association or living together), Vipayok (Grieve), Upathan (Attachment), Pratthana (Desire), Mahant (Big or enormous), and Mahasan (Huge or tremendous).
